According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, allergic conditions are the most common health issues in the U.S., which affect about 50 million people a year.  There are different types of allergies ranging from indoor allergies, outdoor allergies, drug allergies and food allergies. The eight most common food allergies according to the AAFA are milk, soy, eggs, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish. The reactions that people have with food allergies can range from food poisoning symptoms to much more severe anaphylactic shock.  For that reason, it’s extremely important that surfaces are cleaned properly to ensure that the protein residues of these foods are non-existent if people with food allergies are present. 
 
A good way to prevent cross-contamination of the protein residues, according to Foodallergy.org, is to clean and sanitize with soap and water or all purpose cleaning agents and sanitizers that meet state and local food safety regulations, all surfaces that come in contact with these foods.
